WordsAtScale #1: π When the "Dream Job" Isn't a Dream
Hey there! π
Welcome to the WordsAtScale Newsletter #1!
This is where I share all the behind-the-scenes stuff that doesn't make it to my main YouTube channel.
What kind of stuff, you ask? Well, things like:
- π‘ Unexpected insights and "aha!" moments
- π Struggles (big and small)
- π Wins and successes (also big and small!)
The goal is simple: to get to know each other better. That way, we can learn and grow together.
So, what do you say? Are you ready to peek behind the curtain with me? Let's do this! π
Insight of the Week [a full-time job is not for me]
π Once upon a time, not so long ago, I received an exciting job offer. It seemed like a dream come true! The position promised:
- π° A big pay raise
- πͺ Work that played to my strengths in marketing, data analytics, and advertising
- π₯ A chance to work with people I knew and liked
So, what did I do? I took the leap and accepted the job. But after just 5 short weeks, we decided to part ways.
You might be wondering, "What happened?" π€
Well, the truth is, I'm still processing it all. But here's what I think happened...
In the year before taking this job, I had been blogging full-time. And during that time, I got used to a certain kind of freedom. ποΈ
What kind of freedom? The freedom to spend my time how I wanted. And most importantly, the freedom to spend more time with my wife and kids (who are 5 and 2).
Looking back, going full-time with blogging was one of the best decisions I ever made. It gave me the gift of time with my family. π¨βπ©βπ§βπ¦
So even though this new job seemed great on paper, it couldn't compare to the flexibility and family time that blogging gave me.
The moral of the story? Sometimes the "dream job" isn't really a dream at all. And that's okay. What matters is finding work that aligns with your values and lets you live the life you want. π

Struggle of the Week [diversify me not]
πΏ This week, I faced a tough challenge: refocusing my attention on WordsAtScale as my main project. It was like pruning a tree - I had to make some hard cuts. π³
What did that look like? Well, it meant either abandoning or closing down several other projects.
I know that diversifying is smart, especially with Google making things tougher each year. But as a one-person show, I realized I needed to streamline.
So, what tough decisions did I make? π€
1. π° I'm putting Trickmenot.ai up for sale. This project currently brings in around $4K per month, and I'm hoping to sell it at a profit. (If anyone is interested, let me know!)
2. π I've closed down NicheScoutPro, both the site and the newsletter.
3. π WordsAtScale.com is now going to be the main hub for most of my projects, ideas, and tests. Check out the updated Free Tools section.
Through all of this, my YouTube channel remains the engine that powers everything. So it only makes sense to increase my posting frequency from 1-2 videos per week to 3-4. π
The moral of the story? Sometimes you have to make tough choices to move forward. By cutting back and refocusing, I'm able to pour my energy into what matters most. πͺ

Tool of the Week [You.com]
You.com has been the biggest revelation for me in the last 3 months. For just $15, it offers a whole suite of AI models (15 at the time of writing) with 3 separate modes:
π§ Genius mode for computation and coding
π¨ Creative mode for generating images
π Research mode for in-depth citations
But now they've introduced Assistants that I can use as my personal AI agents. Isn't that cool?
I called one of them my "Brand Voice" assistant. It helps me correct and edit my own writing (including this newsletter).
I'm planning to record a full tutorial about this soon. Keep an eye out for it!
