Let's talk about a cool experiment Ahrefs did. 🧪 They wanted to see if getting rid of "bad" links could help websites show up better in search results. Sounds interesting, right? 🤔

What Did Ahrefs Do? 🕵️‍♀️

Ahrefs picked three of their blog posts and used a special tool to find links that might be hurting their search rankings. They found 129 of these "toxic" links 🦠 and told Google to ignore them. 🙅‍♂️

How Did They Test It? 🔬

The plan was to watch what happened for a month. But guess what? Google decided to shake things up with a big update 🔄, so Ahrefs had to cut the test short after 20 days. They looked at data from Google and their own tools to see if ignoring those links made any difference.

What Did They Find Out? 🧐

Here's where it gets interesting:

• Overall, their traffic went down a little bit (about 7%). 📉

• Some pages did worse in search results after ignoring the links. 😕

• For other pages, it didn't really change anything. 🤷‍♂️

So, What's the Big Takeaway? 💡

Ahrefs learned that just because a tool says a link is "toxic" doesn't mean you should rush to get rid of it. In fact, it might even hurt your website's performance! 😮

They suggest focusing on other ways to improve your website's search rankings instead. 📈 The only time you should worry about bad links is if Google itself tells you there's a problem. ⚠️
