WordsAtScale #56: I used $5 to “rank” on Google...

Welcome to the WordsAtScale Newsletter #56!
Hey Guys! 👋 Vlad here.
This week, let’s explore three exciting insights:
In this issue, we dive into family-focused travel content, low-cost SEO breakthroughs, and how to create truly local, human-sounding AI content!
🌿 Niche of the Week: Family Travel
Family travel is a booming niche targeting memory-making, educational, and stress-free trips for all ages—from toddlers to seniors. Dive into topics like multigenerational itineraries, kid-friendly packing guides, safety tips, and destination reviews. Monetize with content on affordable road trips, product recommendations, and travel hacks tailored to family needs.
🎉 SEO Case Study: $5 Press Release Hack
One marketer used a $5 press release to manipulate Google’s AI Overview—claiming a fake agency was “reputable” and offering five-star services. No backlinks or SEO efforts were needed—just clever wording and timing. Startups can use this low-cost method to build brand perception in search results, especially when online presence is minimal. 🚀
✍️ Copywriting Workflows: Stop Humanizing AI
Instead of tweaking AI content to “sound human,” a marketer developed the Audience-First Brand Voice system—based on real customer language from forums and reviews. This process crafts prompts that feel authentic and local, significantly improving trust and relatability. The result? 86% “human” scores and stronger brand voices that actually resonate.

SEO Case Study [$5 To Get Into Google AI Overview]
Situation
Startups often struggle to stand out online, especially in search results. When people Google a brand, there's usually not much written about new companies. That leaves a big gap—especially in Google’s AI Overviews—that startups could try to fill.
Task
The challenge? Influence AI-generated search summaries (AI Overviews) using low-cost, simple tools. One marketer, inspired by a user named Harpreet on Twitter, wanted to see if it was possible to "hack" AI Overviews by using a cheap press release.
Action
Here’s what Harpreet did:
Created a fake agency with zero domain authority (meaning it had no reputation online).
Wrote a glowing press release about how this fake agency was offering advanced SEO services.
Paid just $5 to distribute the press release using a budget service.
Waited to see if AI Overviews would pick up and repeat the content.
And guess what? It worked.
The AI Overview said the fake agency was “reputable,” based on the language from the press release. The content even included fake five-star ratings and services, which the AI repeated as facts. 🤯
Result
✅ The $5 press release shaped the AI-generated brand profile.
✅ No real SEO work was done.
✅ AI overviews parroted the press release language, proving how easily they can be influenced by low-authority sources when little else exists.
This means startups can quickly build brand authority—or damage a competitor’s—just by publishing well-worded press releases. It’s low-risk, low-cost, and surprisingly effective, especially for unique brand names that don’t have much online history.
Takeaway
🎯 Want to test this for yourself?
Write a press release for a fake brand name.
Distribute it using a cheap service ($5–$20).
Wait a week, then Google the brand and look for AI Overview results.
Copywriting Workflows [Stop Humanizing AI]
SITUATION
Most AI-generated content sounds robotic or vague. It doesn’t connect with real people. It often misses local slang, real frustrations, and how actual customers talk. So what happens? Readers tune out—and businesses lose trust.
TASK
The goal was to create a new method for writing AI-powered content that sounds human and connects with local audiences, without focusing only on bypassing AI detection tools. The speaker wanted something deeper: a brand voice that mirrors how the audience talks.
ACTION
The speaker developed a new system called Audience-First Brand Voice, and used it to analyze a local tree service business. Here’s how it worked in 3 steps:
Audience Voice Research
Collected language from forums like Reddit and reviews on Yelp.
Found customer pain points like pricing confusion, trust issues, and delays.
Noted local terms like “Live Oaks,” “Central Texas,” and common phrases like “make sure they’re bonded.”
Brand Voice Analysis
Analyzed a blog post from the business to see their writing tone.
Found a warm, knowledgeable tone — like a helpful neighbor.
Tracked signature phrases like “Did you know?” and mentions of Austin culture.
Voice Prompt Creation
Combined both voices into a reusable AI prompt that any business can copy, customize, and use to write authentic content.
Included emotional drivers, call-to-action styles, sentence structure, and customer fears.
RESULT
✅ Content written with the new “Audience-First” prompt sounded human and local.
✅ AI detection tools rated the content as 86% human, compared to 96% AI when using a basic writing sample.
✅ More importantly, the voice felt authentic—like it belonged to a local expert, not a faceless bot.
✅ The system now helps businesses connect better, rank faster, and earn more trust.
